My Role: Creative Director on the client side. Responsibilities included; selection of models and clothing; overseeing photo shoot; approving hair and make-up; and final approval.
Photographer: Agency Resource.
This was a particular long and very expensive photo shoot. We needed to complete five unique shots involving five different groups of models. Needless to say, it lasted around 15 hours even with the multitude of hands that were at our disposal.
The results are excellent and we ended up with a wealth of shots to choose from. However, utilizing an internal creative group which is part of a corporation then hiring an external agency who hires a photographer presents some very challenging situations.
Simply put... too many chefs in the kitchen. Therefore, it was extremely important for me to remain focused on my ultimate role, which was to ensure that my employer was getting a final product that met all of our corporate and creative specifications.
This meant knowing when t0 lay low and not adding to the confusion when too many people were throwing directions around. It also meant reigning in some of those people when they were costing the company money and not really contributing to a better finished product.
All-in-all, I do like working at all of these different levels, but I also feel that the same results could have been achieved on a much smaller budget.
