This is an example of a design I created completely from scratch. It was interesting to get my feet wet doing the actual hands-on work with Dreamweaver and HTML since I'd become very much accustomed to exclusively directing the process.
I fully give myself credit for being able to hold my own with the web guys over the past ten years during our marketing meetings. However, it's a different ball game when you're used to directing the process and walking away while the actual changes are being implemented. Web design and execution is a time- consuming process, particularly for a novice. This fact becomes even more evident when you're dealing with complex sites and structures.
Ironically, there's no one to be mad at when you're both project leader and designer. While I was hammering away at the design, code, and execution, I was also conceptualizing additional changes that would improve the overall user experience and the effectiveness of the site as a business tool. Things like meta tags, keywords, and content are also very time-consuming when done correctly and are by no means a one-time fix. You must constantly analyze your SEO to ensure that you're keeping up with industry changes and necessary adjustments.
Working alone this way really gives you a thorough understanding and appreciation of what's involved in every aspect of building an effective website.
This sample uses fixed pixel dimensions to display its content. This fixed space remains centered in your window and utilizes a self-adjusting frame. In truth, the "frame" is just a background that you reveal more or less of when you open or close your window. Theoretically, this design should remain most true to the designer's vision while lending itself nicely to the wide variety of different size and shape monitors used today.
